In a city where people spend so much kinetic energy trying to prove their presence, there is immense relief in absolute stillness. You do not have to fidget or perform to occupy space. The frame holds its own line, the breath slows down, and gravity does the rest.

Cold drizzle darkens the Victorian brickwork outside the flat this afternoon, turning the masonry a dense, wet charcoal. In Maputo, rain on coastal aggregate always brought the sharp sting of salt and quick drying heat; London damp sinks in slow, settling into the mortar beds for months.
