Photographs, observations, and the days between.

The scale inside the Navate makes you reset your balance before you even realize you've done it. Fabro's suspended web pulls the whole volume taut—cables under tension anchored straight down into solid marble, holding that enormous dark air together like a pattern piece held by grainline pins. Standing under all that weight and wire, looking up until your neck aches, is a very strange sort of relief. It is entirely about structure and how much load an idea can bear without collapsing into theatrics.

Past midnight, and I’ve spent the better part of an hour coaxing an uncooperative length of split reed into a curved linen channel without snapping it. Modern synthetics would give in instantly, but they don’t carry any history. It’s quiet, exacting work, punctuated only by my own restless pacing across the floorboards and the inevitable jerk when my oversized knit hooks itself on the kitchen cabinet hardware. Some physical habits clearly refuse to evolve.

Starting somewhere with clean margins feels oddly similar to stepping onto a bare floor before a fitting—you take the measure of your posture, check your balance, and decide not to perform. I want a place to keep track of things without pretense or gloss, just the working mechanics of my days here in Milan and whatever manages to hold together along the way.
