Photographs, observations, and the days between.

I took the long route beside the water. The light stayed cold on my face, but the rest of the city kept changing colour as I walked: violet water, orange concrete, green buildings, a blue line that would not hold still. I did not try to make the two versions agree.

The description of The Machine’s Eye in Human Hands stayed with me today: whether a constructed image can still say something true. Before the test shoot, I kept thinking about how much preparation disappears from the finished frame. I was crouched on the floor fixing a loafer, with a scratched mirror behind me and the overhead light turning everything slightly green. The direct flash kept the room as awkward as it actually was.
