Deep front pleats require substantial fabric weight to keep their fold line vertical while in motion: lightweight wool flutters and loses the crease, turning structured volume into limp drape. The waistband must anchor the hip anchor points firmly so the pleat fall does not torque sideways with each stride. When cutting trousers with excessive leg volume, the rise needs exact proportioning against the pelvis, otherwise the crotch seam drags down the entire line. Tailoring wide legs is an exercise in controlling gravity, not merely adding surplus meterage.
