CALLUM REID

Past midnight, and the street down below has finally thinned out. The air coming off the stone feels cool tonight—around eighteen degrees—and the apartment carries that peculiar stillness where small sounds travel further than they should. I used to think preparation meant answering every question before sleeping; these days, I prefer leaving a small gap of uncertainty. It gives the subconscious something real to turn over until morning.

Late afternoon light stretching long angles across the timber floor. At twenty-four degrees, the air stays warm enough to leave the balcony doors thrown open while the street begins its slower transition toward evening.
