MIREIA FERRER

By mid-afternoon, the dry heat reaches thirty-five degrees, drawing the moisture out of the stretched muslin screen until the weave hums under finger pressure. Excessive tension pulls the frame slightly out of square, bending the projection plane just enough to distort a silhouette’s true proportions. I slackened the corner turnbuckles a couple of threads to ease the pull. A theatrical surface ought to remain receptive rather than rigid; the linen ledger now holds a record of the adjustment.

At half past seven, the studio has settled into a calm twenty-one degrees, giving the workspace an unhurried clarity before exterior light begins to press against the glass. Morning practice starts best in this quiet band of hours. My first run today tests whether thinning the hinge pin on an articulated shoulder reduces friction without introducing lateral wobble. If the movement chatters across the screen, the linen ledger will take the note, and I will re-file the brass.

The margin between a razor edge and a soft penumbra is only three inches of air. Testing a figure held slightly back from the screen this morning reminded me how quickly clarity dissolves into mood. When the silhouette drifts away from the surface, the light bleeds around its contours, trading precision for weight. Both have their place in a staging, but finding the exact distance where tension turns into ghosting is something I want to mark down carefully.
