Photographs, observations, and the days between.

I set a cast-iron weight over two sheets of blotting paper before dinner. One of the older charts had curled along the lower margin during the move, and dry pressing takes at least two days to settle without risking moisture. Giving the fibers time to relax under steady pressure works better than trying to rush the repair. Forcing fragile paper never ends well, and the same usually holds true for a stubborn input sequence.

I dismantled the primary pad this evening to inspect the silicone contact under the D-pad. The rubber rim had a hairline split on the right contact, which explains why the pivot felt slightly mushy yesterday. Swapping in a fresh membrane took ten minutes with the fine screwdriver. The mechanical snap is back to baseline now, sharp and predictable. Small hardware faults are much easier to fix than creeping bad habits.

The CRT has a steady high-frequency hum that is easy to ignore until the room goes completely quiet. In Trieste, street noise from the docks usually buried it, but here the silence leaves every mechanical quirk exposed. My plan for tomorrow morning is to isolate the frame window on the wall slide rather than pushing through another full segment. Drilling forty clean inputs in a row matters far more than chasing split timers when the cadence still drifts.

Light drizzle settled outside around six, and the room cooled down enough to stiffen my fingers. Cold tendons hurt input consistency faster than mental fatigue, especially when drilling rapid pivots on the D-pad. I spent twenty minutes on hand stretches before touching the board, then held a mug of hot water until the stiffness cleared from my left wrist. It is dull maintenance, but physical execution falls apart without it.

I spent an hour comparing sprite coordinates from an old capture to see where the hitbox clips on frame fourteen. Kaelen logged an alternate jump arc last month, but on my display the collision box registers two pixels wider at peak elevation. It is either an uncataloged revision in the cartridge ROM or a subtle difference in hardware polling. Tracing the hex values line by line clears up the discrepancy without relying on guesswork.

I caught myself tiptoeing down the hallway while drilling an input sequence on the dead controller. It takes deliberate effort to unlearn two years of Signor Vascotto’s broom hitting the floorboards every time I paced in the evening. Here, the subfloor is solid enough that my steps do not echo, and nobody knocks from below to protest the rhythm. The silence is slightly disorienting, but the thumb transitions were clean.

Gina Zuliani · 25 de setembro de 2026

I spent half an hour running waxed linen thread through my fingers to take out the coil memory before stitching. With paper this old, uneven tension along the spine will tear through the punched stations before the knot is even pulled taut. My hands are steady enough this evening after stepping away from the monitor early. It is quiet work for six o'clock, and it gives my fingers an easy rhythm that has nothing to do with switch travel.

Gina Zuliani · 24 de setembro de 2026

The transition into the third jump of the wall clip still feels stiff after an hour of repetition. On the unpowered controller, the physical rhythm sounds right—three distinct clicks with no drag between the release and the re-press. Hooked up to the CRT, the sprite keeps clipping two pixels too low. I am likely anticipating the visual cue by half a beat instead of trusting the hand cadence. A ten-minute break usually clears that kind of visual drift.

The test strip came out from under the iron press flat. No edge curling, and the seam held cleanly against the rag paper, which settles my concern about the drier air here. Timing the cure by instinct still feels slightly off compared to Trieste, where the humidity was constant, but it is manageable. A simple adjustment to drying time solves it.

Sunday evening usually means stripping down the backup controller to inspect the silicone pads. The directional pad has slightly stiffer rebound than my main board, which throws off the cadence on rapid diagonals. Ten minutes of blind inputs is enough to feel the difference in travel distance. It is minor, but when a trick hinges on a one-frame window, tolerance for inconsistency is zero.

Gina Zuliani · 21 de setembro de 2026

The air in this flat is noticeably drier than Trieste, which changes how quickly wheat starch cures against old rag paper. I set a test strip under the small iron press before six to see if the edges curl overnight. Dario's salvage charts are too fragile to risk on guesswork. If the paste sets too fast, the seam puckers, and there is no undo command for cracked cotton fibers.

It is warm enough this evening that my grip slips if I stay at the desk too long without wiping down the housing. I spent an hour charting the sub-pixel window for the first wall clip, running the three-jump sequence through my fingers while looking out the window. My execution rate is sitting around seventy percent. Not where it needs to be for a clean attempt, but the failure point is consistent now. That makes it a problem I can actually solve.

Gina Zuliani · 19 de setembro de 2026

Reviewing old video captures always reminds me where Kaelen and I disagree. Kaelen's line on the second descent shaves roughly thirty frames, but it leaves the enemy buffer up to chance. It works when the sprite behavior cooperates. I still prefer an airtight cycle lock, even if setting up the sub-pixels takes two extra inputs. If a sequence cannot be reproduced ten times in a row without variance, it is not a genuine solution. Relying on favorable RNG to hold a split is just gambling.

Gina Zuliani · 18 de setembro de 2026

Six in the evening feels quiet here in a way I am still learning to parse. Without floorboards creaking down to Signor Vascotto, pacing feels oddly uninterrupted. I laid out a bone folder and two weights to press a salvage map flat, then stopped to let my hands rest. When fine motor inputs start drifting, forcing more repetitions is just stubbornness. Better to give the joints an idle evening.

Gina Zuliani · 17 de setembro de 2026

The tendency when a split slips is to reset immediately, hoping muscle memory compensates for a missed window. It rarely does. When an off-screen spawn buffer desynchronizes by even two frames, forcing another live run only creates bad habits. My preference is to leave the console off and work through the cycle math directly on paper. Isolating the timing variance beforehand saves dozens of wasted attempts at the desk.

Gina Zuliani · 16 de setembro de 2026

By six in the evening, the light angles across the workbench without much glare. I spent twenty minutes checking the tension on my directional switches before opening up my notes on the wall-clip route. Translating theoretical coordinates into muscle memory always feels slower when the environment shifts, but the numbers do not care what city I am in. Once the sequence clicks, it stays.
