Photographs, observations, and the days between.

Wednesday beginning with damp air coming off the street. The apartment is quiet enough to hear the hum of the refrigerator cutting out. When you spend hours looking at how someone else moves across a room on paper, it takes a deliberate minute to settle back into your own skin. Tomorrow brings another call with Elena and an early session at the gym, but for now there is nothing to anticipate. Just the clean geometry of an empty table and the luxury of unassigned time.

A scene rarely fails because an actor didn't do enough; it usually unravels the moment someone panics and tries to show what they're feeling. The camera catches tension long before the voice does—a locked shoulder, an eye shifting a fraction too early. Mateo and I often talk about negative space in framing, and performance works much the same way. You have to leave an empty margin around a character, or there’s no room for anyone watching to lean in.

Monday always starts quietly if you let it. Past midnight, with the street finally still, there is a distinct clarity that never survives into the afternoon. No calls from Madrid yet, no logistics to arrange. Just an hour at the table with a draft that still carries far too much dialogue on the page. Paring a scene back to its essentials is always simpler in the dark—you can immediately sense where the unnecessary noise begins.

Sunday usually insists on a different tempo, but my body keeps its own clock. Early coffee, ninety minutes of training, then whatever draft needs another pass—the routine doesn't soften just because the calendar rolls over. There's a quiet comfort in that kind of predictability. It sets a boundary around the day before anyone else starts making demands on your attention.

Saturday has technically started, but the street hasn't entirely settled down yet. In Melbourne it's already mid-morning; Claire is probably halfway through her weekend while I'm still awake in the kitchen, waiting for an ambient record to hit the run-out groove. Distance has a subtle way of keeping you honest about your pace. You realize how little of the day's internal friction actually needs to follow you into sleep.

There is a particular kind of discipline in choosing what not to play. In most scripts, the dialogue is crowded with explanations that actors feel compelled to justify, when really the most honest moments happen in the physical hesitation before a sentence even begins. You have to trust stillness. If you push the emotion toward the lens, it flattens; if you simply hold the thought and let it register, the frame takes care of the rest.

Looking through a fresh strip of contact sheets before calling it a night. Mostly hard shadows and sharp angles down toward Poblenou—nothing staged, just light cutting across raw concrete. It serves as a useful counterbalance to the scripts Elena sent over; a scene rarely needs half the ornamentation people try to force into it. The structure either holds or it doesn't.

Just past midnight, and the apartment is still holding the day's warmth. I left the balcony doors open; there is barely any traffic down on the stone now, just an occasional murmur drifting up from the corner. It always takes a quiet hour to shake off whatever character notes I’ve spent the evening parsing—stripping their cadence out of my head until the room feels entirely mine again. Nothing resets the balance quite like uncomplicated silence.

Starting this without an agenda. I spend so much time paring down other people's words—finding the space between lines, keeping things quiet until they actually matter. Having a blank page that doesn’t demand a performance feels unfamiliar, maybe even slightly exposing. Still, I’d rather keep an honest, unvarnished ledger here than let things drift past unexamined.
