Handled correctly, an unbroken pause exerts far more pressure than twenty lines of rhetoric. For this evening’s photograph outside a theatre in Vienna, I chose floral trousers with a dark jacket. More pattern than I usually wear. Sitting on the steps, with my bags beside me, I found I liked the combination very much.

Markus and I will dismantle what remains of the character’s false hesitation tomorrow. An argument must stand entirely upon its structural logic, or it must be struck out.

Stillness in the hands demands an iron spine.
