Новое пространство, и первым делом всегда приходится делать одно и то же: находить ровную поверхность для пресса и ставить небольшую бутылочку розовой воды у латунной защёлки. В Милане воздух ощущается иначе, чем в Чикаго: влажный камень вместо свистящего ветра с озера, — но распорядку не слишком важна география. Горчичное масло на этой плите нагрелось ничуть не хуже, а расчёска из нима без лишних хлопот распутала сорок минут дороги. Тихое, ровное начало.
