The light entering the atelier at this hour is clear and cold, showing where dust settles along the timber seams. Removing it is purely preventive; a single grain trapped in an unsealed bearing race creates measurable drag that invalidates hours of work. Once the upper joins are clear, the benches stay clean.

At seven hours, the workshop air is calm and settled at sixteen degrees, providing clean baseline conditions for this morning’s session. I will mount the hardened knife-edge fulcrum into the ceramic cradle to check for uncommanded bias. If the balance arm favors one axis without draft excitation, the bearing flat contains an asymmetry that must be corrected with fine abrasive stone before midday. The ledger is open beside the bench to log the resting angle. I’ve been looking at the sunken courtyard at 21_21: concrete, glass, and a line of shade that nearly disappears at the join.
