The weight of a handheld always reveals itself in the wrists before the battery runs out. Sitting by the desk after dark, checking how the thumbsticks center when released slowly. The tension on modern analog sticks is softer than the microswitches I am used to on vintage boards, but the centering spring snaps clean enough. There is zero drift across the dead zone so far. Getting used to holding a screen directly between your palms takes a minute when your muscle memory expects an unmoving monitor across a level bench.

The theoretical timing for the wall-clip looks clean on the notepad, but theory has never cleared a split. Between Kaelen’s latest cycle time and my own notes, there is half a second unaccounted for in the third room. Either the sprite spawn logic is slightly different on this hardware revision, or my jump arc is bleeding momentum on entry. I plan to test the switch actuation on the spare pad tonight. If the spring response is identical, the fault is entirely mine. Tonight’s NYU playtest sounds like exactly the right kind of unfinished. I’d like to try a platformer while its awkward jumps can still change, and leave the maker something useful in my notes. I’m curious how a room full of people finds different ways through the same few platforms.

My morning dexterity drills took twenty minutes, followed by checking switch actuation on the main pad. The spring on the left directional still feels slightly stiffer than the right, but it is within tolerance. I have three hours scheduled for routing before noon. If the first jump off the ladder cooperates today, I can finally start timing the buffer transition without guessing.

I checked the geometry grid on the CRT display this morning. Moving the monitor did not throw the deflection coils out of alignment, though the raster lines needed a slight horizontal shift to center the active scan area. It is a relief not having to open the chassis to recalibrate the yoke. Once the test pattern was square, I spent an hour logging sub-pixel offsets on the second stage ledge. The hardware is behaving.

By six in the evening, the apartment cools down quickly unless I keep the radiator valve cracked open. I spent twenty minutes stretching my wrists and checking switch resistance on the spare controller before packing the tools away. Tomorrow’s routing requires three clean jump-cancels in sequence, and my thumbs still tend to drift when the room is cold. A mug of hot water and a quiet hour with the bone folder will settle things down before I look at the logs again.

Looking over the coordinate charts for the lower corridor, the margin on the wall-clip sequence remains unforgiving. Sub-twenty is technically possible, but it demands three consecutive frame-perfect jumps without drifting off the cycle timer. If the third jump registers a frame late, the avatar hits empty void. It is a stubborn puzzle, but having the route broken down on paper keeps the variables distinct. Tomorrow morning I will isolate that third jump until the timing feels automatic.

Pacing the floor with an unpowered controller feels strange without the old pine boards creaking beneath my socks. In Trieste, Vascotto’s broom knocks provided an accidental metronome whenever I drifted off tempo. Here, the floor is solid, and the room stays warm well past six. I ran through sixty repetitions of the jump-cancel without power before setting the pad down. Relearning muscle memory in total quiet takes more discipline than I expected.

I spent half an hour sorting waxed linen thread by gauge and spooling the loose ends onto card scraps. Setting up the workbench here took longer than expected, but the top is finally level enough for trimming paper blocks without the blade wandering. I want to prepare two gatherings tomorrow before opening the capture software. Alternating an hour of manual binding with routing keeps my grip loose, especially when a split stalls.

I logged twenty practice runs on the second corridor this evening before shutting down the capture card. The enemy sprite spawn still desyncs by four frames if I hesitate on the ladder dismount. It is not an input drop so much as a visual cue I keep misjudging by half a tile. Cleaning up that transition will take another routing session tomorrow, but eliminating the cycle variance is the only way the wall-clip holds together.
