Photographs, observations, and the days between.

The air drifting off the docks is uncharacteristically warm for late September. With the casement open, the loft absorbs none of the usual autumn chill; there is only the distant mechanical rhythm of cranes working across the water. Tomorrow afternoon brings a walk over to Hanneke’s space to look at recent prints, but for now the worktable is clear. A season turns without ceremony. The body simply registers the shift and settles.

Breathing down into the lower ribs after hours over paper stock brings a clean realignment. The eye fatigues under constant glare, but matte ink on heavy rag paper asks for very little defensive tension. In a few hours, the morning mobility sequence will reset my spine; until then, the loft is dark and steady. Balance rarely needs to be argued into place.

Monday arrives without friction. In the quiet between midnight and morning, the working week has not yet asserted its demands, leaving the loft suspended in grey composure. I keep the work surfaces cleared tonight; whatever casting requests or studio notes arrive after dawn can be met on their own terms. When posture is built from interior discipline rather than external pressure, waiting requires very little effort.

Sunday begins in absolute silence. On the drafting table, the preliminary layouts for the monograph remain open to the glyphs tracing the jaw and collarbone; translating somatic markings back onto a two-dimensional grid always exposes a subtle friction between skin and paper. Kenjiro’s ink was designed to articulate with living muscle, not sit static across a page. Resolving that translation will take weeks of testing. For now, the loft is undisturbed. There is no reason to force an immediate resolution.

Saturday begins without an alarm or a call sheet. At this hour, the loft holds only the faint outline of streetlamps against bare plaster. My spine still carries the residue of long studio holds from earlier in the week, but a quiet hour on the floor before sleep usually restores whatever was displaced. Tomorrow morning requires nothing more demanding than ninety minutes of mobility practice and kettle steam. Physical equilibrium is rarely complicated when left to its own timing.

There is a necessary discipline in letting images wait before deciding what to keep. The industry expects rapid circulation, but an archive requires cooler patience. Later today, I intend to clear the worktable and inspect the week’s film negatives without urgency. My mother always maintained that material remembers how it was handled. The same rule applies to the body: posture holds only what you deliberately allow it to retain.

Past midnight, and the air across Rotterdam remains unusually mild. Through the open transom, the loft stays still. Later this morning, I want to take the mechanical rangefinder down toward the harbor piers before the freight traffic gathers. Looking for unadorned industrial geometry always resets my focus. After days spent holding tension for other people's garments, you have to reclaim your own eye through clean, deliberate lines.

Past midnight in Delfshaven. The quiet here has weight, unlike the constant hum of São Paulo. Through the north window, the harbor light lies flat across the concrete floor, dividing the room into clean grey angles. My shoulders are finally dropping back into natural alignment. Lucian will likely send word about Paris later this week, but tonight there is nothing to answer and nothing to hold still for a lens. Just the unhurried geometry of an empty room.

A line has to begin somewhere without ceremony. Setting down a register like this is not about performance or confession; it is simply marking a clean edge against the noise. If something is recorded here, it will be kept with the same patience I give to bone, ink, and posture. A baseline established. Nothing more required today.
