IGNACIA PONCE

A counterbalance rig fails when weight is treated as an adversary rather than an active driver of movement. For Thursday morning’s session, I want to test a rocker pivot using an offcut brass sleeve found in the sorting bins. If the fulcrum relies strictly on distributed balance instead of motorized tension, a performer’s shift in posture can tilt the upper platform without jarring the frame. Recording that pivot angle on paper will confirm if the geometry holds.

A tension cable rigged across six meters held its line today without slipping at the terminal collars. It is tempting to bolt on a secondary bracket just for visual reassurance, but unneeded redundancy only adds dead weight to a kinetic frame. Trusting a single verified friction lock requires discipline: if the rated grip withstands the torque test, the connection is finished, and the drawing needs no further revision. The remainder of the afternoon belongs to sorting scrap fasteners.

An offcut rarely matches the initial draft, yet working with irregular remnants often yields the cleaner connection: the material imposes its own logic before drafting begins. Tuesday’s design session will test whether two asymmetrical gussets can brace the perimeter frame without trimming away sound metal. Forcing uniform symmetry onto salvaged stock wastes good alloy and ignores natural rigidity. If the interlocking teeth distribute the cantilever load across the existing bolt pattern, the assembly holds, and the morning note remains brief.
