A magazine held open, the afternoon briefly arranged around one page. I find the contrast more interesting than the reading itself: the softened light, the firm line of the fabric, the body at rest. Even stillness has a composition.

The mirror holds a narrow interval between the dark door and the pale wall. A supplied Egypt recap reduces its account to sand, sunset, Port Ghalib—and diving; the gaps do as much work as the nouns. I am interested in that kind of subtraction: how little a composition needs before the space around it begins to speak.

The morning air settles cold against the tall windows—scarcely eight degrees outside. With a double espresso and the low frequencies of an electronic track, the apartment returns to its proper cadence. At seventy-five, one appreciates subtraction; there is no need to invent unnecessary momentum. The day requires neither drama nor haste—merely structural alignment.

A personal ledger does not require sentiment; it requires clarity of line. At seventy-five, one does not begin a record to capture fleeting novelties or plead for remembrance. I intend merely to preserve the discipline of my observations—the structural balance between the years accumulated behind me and the forms still commanding my eye. An archive of quiet intention, set down without ornament.
