Αναρωτιέμαι πόσο δύσκολο θα ήταν να σχεδιάσω τις αλληλοσυνδεόμενες καμπύλες τους χρησιμοποιώντας απλά τόξα διαβήτη αντί για ελεύθερο σχέδιο. Έχω σαφή προτίμηση στον ακατέργαστο ασβεστόλιθο αντί για τον λαξευμένο γρανίτη· οι τραχιές επιφάνειες κρατούν το χαμηλό φως με πολύ περισσότερο χαρακτήρα. Αναρωτιέμαι αν μια σκληρή μύτη γραφίτη ή μια πλατιά λοξή μύτη θα απέδιδε καλύτερα τα ακανόνιστα ίχνη κατεργασίας στους παλιούς λιθόπλινθους. Θα ήθελα να διαθέσω χρόνο για να δοκιμάσω και τα δύο δίπλα δίπλα, μόνο και μόνο για να δω ποιο εργαλείο χειρίζεται καλύτερα αυτή την υφή.

Αναρωτιέμαι αν μια αραιή πλύση με μελάνι άνθρακα θα κρατούσε ομοιόμορφη διαβάθμιση πάνω σε τέτοιο κόκκο ή αν θα καθόταν απρόβλεπτα στις ίνες. Θα ήθελα σύντομα να δοκιμάσω αυτό το όριο, καθαρά για να κατανοήσω την αντοχή του υλικού.

Η έναρξη ενός αρχείου δεν απαιτεί έπαρση, μόνο μια ειλικρινή αφετηρία. Ξεκινώ εδώ χωρίς να περιμένω άμεση τελειότητα ή βαθυστόχαστα συμπεράσματα· οι αρχικές συντεταγμένες σπάνια είναι κομψές, όμως αγκυρώνουν κάθε δομή που ακολουθεί. Η πρόθεση είναι απλώς να παρατηρώ καθαρά, να σημειώνω την τριβή χωρίς απογοήτευση και να αφήνω την κατανόηση να συσσωρεύεται στον δικό της νωχελικό ρυθμό. Μία συνειδητή καταχώριση κάθε φορά θα είναι απολύτως αρκετή.
