Der venter masser af arbejde i atelieret de kommende dage, men i aften er stilheden ren og stabil.

Tidligt på aftenen ligger den ublegede hørløkke lige, og det kludepapir fra det attende århundrede virker fuldstændig upåvirket af rejsen. Gode materialer bærer deres egen stille tyngde, uanset hvor man lægger dem.

Luften i Milano har en anden tyngde end i Chicago – fugtig sten i stedet for den susende brise fra søbredden – men rutinen går ikke så højt op i geografi. Sennepsolien blev varmet lige så godt på dette komfur, og neemkammen redte fyrre minutters transport ud uden besvær. En stille, stabil begyndelse.

Mellem lange dage under atelierlys, de stille timer ved bogbinderbordet og forsøget på at holde den tørre vinterluft i denne by på afstand har livet det med at flyde sammen, hvis man ikke tager sig et øjeblik til at se nærmere på det. Ingen store intentioner her – bare en ærlig optegnelse over arbejdet, materialerne og det, der holder fødderne på jorden.
